Shipping Requirements

Shipping Update: April 2009

Pease note that Liquid Cable no longer requires Hazmat shipping designation.

Simply place a label on the shipping box stating:

"Commodity Product - Audio Cable Consumer Level Exemption"

Ship the product as you would normally ship any product you send out to anyone.

Packaging:

Cable should simply be placed in a ZiplockĀ® bag inside our Pelican case and shipped within standard packing material (i.e. cardboard box filled with newspaper for buffering).

The International Air Transportation Association (IATA) shipping/packaging designation has been updated from category 2803 to 1760.

Clean up: in case of breakage of the cable, cleanup is simply soap and water.

Previous Shipping Requirements (Prior to 2008)

Shipping requirements for Liquid Cable were more onerous in the past because the liquid metal alloy used in the cable, one component of which is the element gallium, was placed in the same category as pure gallium.

In its pure form gallium reacts with aluminum to cause corrosion.

Recently, alloys containing gallium have had their shipping designation updated to more accurately reflect the lesser environmental impact of gallium in an alloy form.

For example, this alloy is considered safe enough to be used in thermometers for children as well as in medical equipment used for surgical procedures.
